'My Space'
Mixed timbers |

The bird is carved from a piece of driftwood oak, collected from a Cornish beach. Side facings to the head and body are from a piece of wreck timber, again from a Cornish beach. This timber is very hard and dark coloured due to the many years that it has spent under pressure in the sea, and has been identified as oak.
One of the mushrooms is carved from a piece of Laburnum wood, taken from a 60 year old tree in a family member’s garden, which had to be cut down. The other mushroom is carved from driftwood and has not been identified to species. The base is a piece of Delabole slate. |
'Tranquility'
Mixed timbers |

This bird is carved from a piece of Jelutong, a timber popular with American wood carvers which is much like our native Limewood; it carves well and takes detail. The finish is three brushed coats of Humbrol matt white enamel, with four final coats of sprayed matt white enamel to give the depth of colour/opacity required.
The bird is supported on a stainless steel pillar, mounted to a piece of driftwood oak (black oak) from a wreck timber found on a Cornish beach.
The base is made from a piece of Delabole slate, bolted to a piece of Lacewood, using threaded metal inserts and stainless steel socket head bolts.

The bird is carved from a piece of timber, thought to be Ash, recovered from Juno Beach in Normandy. The timber was one of the old beach groins which were all in the process of being washed away by the tides. The bird has been stained with Jacobean Dark Oak Stain, which has been protected with two coats of clear varnish, then waxed.
The rushes are Walnut, again varnished in clear varnish.
The base is a piece cut from an oak driftwood log, recovered from a Cornish beach. A piece of Delabole slate serves as a stabiliser.
