Tuesday Evening Session, 4th of May
with
Harry McConville
Subject: Seascapes in Watercolour
|
Harry first demonstrated the production of a seascape, right from the beginning, including providing a list of his favoured materials. Medium sized dinner plates are used as palettes, thus allowing much more room to mix pigments than the often used plastic tubs of various shapes and sizes.
For the last half hour of the session, Harry demonstrated the watercolour technique 'Wet on Wet', showing how he achieved some of the effects seen in his well known Bude Seascapes.
Harry uses, as his personal preferences, the following materials:
PAPER - 140lb Bockingford, rough or not
BRUSHES - No's 12, 8 and 6
PAINTS - Winsor and Newton tubes
BLUES - Cerulean Blue, Cobalt Blue, French Ultramarine
YELLOWS - Yellow Ochre, Raw Sienna
GREENS - Olive Green, Permanent Sap Green or Hookers Green
BROWNS - Raw Umber, Burnt Sienna
REDS - Light Red, Alizarin Crimson, Permanent Rose |

Demonstration Evening - 3rd November 2009
Janet Grant
'Using masking fluid with watercolour'
Janet once again provided us with a fascinating evening, introducing us to her techniques for employing masking fluid. Most of us had never had a proper lesson in using the method so the interest level was high.
Janet finished off the evening by producing 'one she made earlier'; in fact about three weeks ago, thus demonstrating that the fluid could be left longer in place on the painting than most people thought. Rubbing the fluid off the watercolour demonstrated the great effect to which it could be used. |
